Why a Monaco plate is nearly impossible to get
There are around 40,000 vehicles registered in the Principality of Monaco — a state of less than 2.1 square kilometres. The plate is small, white, and instantly recognized from Portofino to Gstaad. It is also, for practical purposes, closed.
To register a car in Monaco, you must be a Monaco resident or a Monaco-registered entity. Residency in the Principality is itself a filtered privilege: it requires local accommodation, proof of substantial means held with a Monaco bank, and government approval. There is no fee you can pay, no service you can hire, and no shortcut you can take that converts money directly into a Monaco carte grise. A non-resident cannot simply buy one.
This is what makes the plate different from every other status object in the automotive world. A rarer car can always be bought by someone with more money. A rarer plate cannot. The Monaco registration is a document of belonging, not of spending — which is precisely why it is read the way it is.
Most of the Monaco-plated supercars you see on the Croisette or outside the Hôtel de Paris belong to residents, or to companies domiciled in the Principality. That second category is the key to this entire page.
How Rentolux makes it legal — and simple

You hold a compliant operational lease. Your name is on the lease contract, not the registration document — standard, established practice across Europe, with complete insurance and every document a border check could ask for.
The plate is there from day one. The car is delivered already registered in Monaco — from your first monthly payment.
And unlike a conventional lease, this one has a destination: buy the car out at any moment for €1 plus the remaining balance. At full term the Luxembourg company that owns the car — plates and tax structure included — is transferred to you. On the published Audi RS3 example: €20,000 down, €1,444.83/month all-in, €18,500 balloon, €71,731.17 total — and the company is yours.
What the plate says before you say anything
In Monaco, Cannes, Courchevel or Geneva, the plate is read before the badge. Valets, doormen, maître d’s and other drivers register the small white rectangle before they register the marque behind it. A Monaco plate on a Urus says something a German or French plate on the same Urus does not: that the car belongs to the Principality’s ecosystem — and, by extension, so does its driver.
This is not vanity; it is signal economics. In rooms where everyone has money, the differentiators are the things money alone does not produce. The Monaco registration is one of the last of them on four wheels:
At the door. Hotels and clubs on the Riviera treat Monaco-plated cars as local. Positioning at the entrance, valet priority, and the quiet assumption of membership are real, observable differences.
On the road. From the Grand Prix weekend to a February run up to Courchevel 1850, the plate travels with full EU/EEA recognition. It is a Monaco document, valid everywhere you drive.
In the detail. Enthusiasts photograph Monaco plates. Concierges remember them. The registration turns an excellent car into a specific car.

The structure — not you — registers the car in the Principality. No residency application, no committee, no exception required on your side. The car is delivered wearing genuine Monaco plates.
You drive it across Europe under the lease
You sign a compliant operational lease with a purchase option and drive on Monaco plates from the first payment. At any moment: buy out for €1 plus the remaining balance. At full term: the Luxembourg company transfers to you entirely.
Rentolux is obliged to buy or swap the vehicle at any time. You are never trapped in a car.
